I truly enjoy getting e-mails from people and try really hard to answer them all. I've put together the most commonly-asked questions for those of you who don't want to e-mail me and ask. But please, keep the e-mails coming! |

Who is the "local agency" you fired?
Sunny Ridge Family Center in Wheaton, Illinois. I am happy to provide you will additional details privately. I personally believe that this agency is completely unable to manage the adoption process effectively. I am very happy to help others avoid the problems we lived through. I am also able to give you five or six other families who were also very unsatisfied with their experience with this agency so you know it's just not me. :) |

Did you like the agency you switched to -- Harrah's Family Services?
Yes! We loved HFS and can recommend them without any reservations. Again, please contact me and I'll be happy to answer any questions about them or give you some additional agency recommendations. There are many competent, wonderful agencies out there! And, given the long wait, I think it is critical to pick an agency you feel really good about. |

Did you ask for twins?
Yes. We very specifically requested twins but didn't expect to receive them. We would have been overjoyed with one baby but were ecstatic to receive two. |

When did you know you were getting twins?
We found out on May 23, when we received our referral. At that point we had one crib and one car seat -- nothing for twins! Needless to say, June was a very busy month for us. |

 |
Is the process different for twins?
Nope. The process is exactly the same. There isn't a "twins track" so requesting twins is only that, a request.

How does China decide who gets twins?
This is one of the China adoption mysteries! There are all kinds of theories about how they decide, including looking at whether you have other children, what your income is, your education level, etc but these are all just theories and speculation. I wish I knew how they decided but honestly I don't. |

How do you pronounce Michal's name?
It's pronounced McCall, like the magazine or pattern maker. It's a name we loved for many years and is just a feminized version of Michael.
What kind of camera do you use?
I used a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT with a 35-80mm lens until February 2008 -- and loved it. In February I upgraded to the Canon 40D. I'm still on a pretty steep learning curve with it but I think it's going to be a great camera.I actually went digital with some hesitation before we got the girls. (I can't imagine not shooting digital now!) I'd used a traditional Canon SLR camera for years so it felt right to go with Canon again.
If you're going to buy a Canon digital SLR, I would recommend buying the body only (available online from lots of camera stores) and then buying a 35-80mm lens separately. The lens it's packaged with isn't very good so there's no sense paying for something you'll ultimately want to replace. |

Where did you get your girls bows or some specific item of clothing?
People always apologize when they ask this question but I am happy to share where I found something! Here is a list of the things I'm most often asked about. |
